Uber driver hijacked during high school shootout

Police arrested a second suspect in connection with the attempted robbery at Edenvale High School on the East Rand on Thursday.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela says the suspect was arrested on Thursday night in a vehicle which was allegedly used during the attempted robbery.
Makhubela says an Uber driver assisted them in the investigation after he told authorities he had been hijacked outside the school and told to drop the gang at another location.
"It's an Uber, the driver dropped the suspects, he went to the police station (Edenvale) to report that he was at the school during the shooting and he was hijacked by these suspects, so he dropped them off somewhere."
Two armed suspects were killed in a shootout with the police at the school on Thursday after attempting to access the safe.
The second suspect is under police guard in hospital.
Makhubela says they have managed to recover five firearms.
"He was found in possession of a rifle and 'a piece', which makes the total amount of firearms to five."
A unknown number of suspects fled the scene in two vehicles and are still at large.
The suspects are believed to be linked to other school robberies in the area.
Last week, a young school boy was injured when he was hit by a stray bullet at Glendower High School.
"We can't rule that out, but we are investigating that," says Makhubela
