UCT suspends classes

Management at the University of Cape Town has suspended lectures on Monday.
The university says it needs more time to engage with students, the Student Representative Council (SRC) and other stakeholders.
Spokesperson, Elijah Mohololo, says talks continued well into the weekend.
"We are also continuing our discussions on options and scenarios that might still enable students to conclude the 2016 academic year successfully," Mohololo said.
He says they will make known the outcome of discussions as well as resolutions and proposals with students as soon as possible.
Lectures at the University of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology have also been suspended, until further notice.

Last week the CPUT's Vice Chancellor, Dr. Prince Nevhutalo, announced an 8 percent fee increase for 2017 that will only apply to about 10 percent of the university's students who can afford it.
The other 90 percent are covered by NSFAS loans, or fall into the category of the so-called "missing middle".
