The department, along with the UIF, appeared before the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) on Friday on the disbursement of funds.
Deputy Minister Boitumelo Moloi says criminal investigations have been instituted in 16 cases.

“Seventy-five cases of suspicious transactions have been identified, 16 investigations have been finalised with criminal cases already being instituted and 59 cases also under investigation.”
In one of the instances an employee allegedly attempted to defraud his former employer of R57 million.
According to UIF commissioner Teboho Maruping, the employee of an unnamed company stole his former employer’s details to claim from UIF.
Maruping said the Hawks are investigating the matter.
