Quality assurance body Umalusi has given the green light for the 2022 matric final exams, while urging school to make sure they have alternative sources of electricity.
CEO Mafu Ramoketsi briefed the media on the readiness for the exams in Johannesburg on Friday.
His plea comes as the country is battling through daily bouts of load shedding.
“Schools should make some provisioning to obviate the challenges that comes with load shedding,” Ramoketsi said.
“We are aware that not all schools can afford to do that because of the inequities of the system. And we are saying this is a very unfortunate state of affairs. We are going to go into the rainy season, where it’s going to be dark during the day and sometimes when it rains heavily the students are going to be impacted negatively by that.”
Close to one million learners are expected to sit down for their final exams later this month.

Ramoketsi has also wished the class of 2022 the best for their exams.
“The 12 year journey of constant hard work, endless projects, assessment tasks, homework and sleepless nights come down to just this moment.”
