Umalusi ready for 2015 matric exams
Updated | By ANA
Education monitoring body Umalusi said on Wednesday it was working hard to ensure that there were no irregularities in this year’s matriculation examinations.
Umalusi chief executive officer Mafu Rakometsi said: “No irregularities will be accepted this year, drastic measures will be taken against the culprits.”
He was addressing media at the University of Johannesburg’s Bunting Campus in Auckland Park.
Umalusi is the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training.
In 2014, cheating was found in several provinces.
“It is a focus point for this year to ensure that this doesn’t happen again,” Rakometsi said.
He added that Umalusi has booted up on their monitoring administration of the examinations.
“We have increased the pool of monitors to 105 monitors,” added Faith Ramutlhali, senior manager of quality assessment.
Umalusi noted that there was inadequate staff capacity to administrate the examinations and that there was a high number of vacant posts.
Ramutlhali noted that there was a shortage of markers for history, mathematical literacy, life science and home languages.
“This is due to the high volumes of admission into these subjects,” he said. - ANA
