The team from the UN was expected to meet with new premier, Job Mokgoro.

Mokgoro took over the reigns of the province after a spate of protest in the region calling for embattled Supra Mahumapelo to step down.

North West Premier Spokesperson Vuyisile Ngesi says the visit was primarily to assist the province in areas identified as needing intervention.

"It was all areas identified as per section 100 (a) and 100 (b) in the constitution," says Ngesi.

Early in the year, President Cyril Ramaphosa placed the province under administration.

The UN is expected to engage with the inter-ministerial task team, tasked to asses the state of affairs in the province, before visiting the province.

“The  inter-ministerial task team, after engagement with the premier, felt they want to be part of the exercise by the United Nations,” Ngesi says.
