Unions to take govt to court over salary increases
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA) and three other unions have filed papers at the Labour Court in Johannesburg over unpaid salary increases.

The public sector unions want to compel the government to pay this year’s salary increases, which formed part of a three year wage deal.
The PSA’s Reuben Maleka says they have been joined by unions Hospersa, SOU and Naptosa in the application.
“As the PSA we have taken a decision to take the government to court in relation to the implementation of resolution 1 of 2018 which is about salary adjustments that were due on 1 April.

“We believe that the resolution gave rise to contractual obligation of employer employees, to honour it however the employer reneged said they are not willing to implement it due to issues of affordability.”
No court date has been confirmed but Maleka says they expect the matter to be heard next week.
