“In the last short while, the #FeesMustFall campaign compounded by labour unrest, has affected the operations of the university and also the finalisation of the 342,000 applications received and registrations,” Registrar Professor Gordon Zide said on Wednesday.

“To this extent, a decision has been made to extend registrations from 30 January 2016 to 14 February 2016. All new students who have received an offer to study at Unisa are advised to take this opportunity to finalise all registrations as urgently as possible. Returning students are advised to finalise their registrations.”

Unisa campuses and service centres that were closed during protests have since reopened.

“Unisa staff, students and other stakeholders of the university are now able to access all campuses freely,” the institution said.

The university’s council formed a task team over the weekend to look into workers’ demand to end outsourcing. The task team, led by Advocate Terry Motau, began its work on Monday, and was expected to table an initial report next month. - ANA
