Unisa vows to curb Covid-19 spread after professor tests positive
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Unisa confirmed on Wednesday that a professor has tested positive for coronavirus.
The university’s Martin Ramotshela says the professor, who had been on sick leave since March 18, is uncertain when or where he was infected.
“This was confirmed by his doctor soon after he received the results of the test. He reported the matter to his line manager and informed colleagues with whom he had had contact after his return.
“He indicated that he was not certain about when or where he was infected, as he had just returned from George, Western Cape, as he was on leave.”
Ramotshela says the university has introduced measures to try and curb the spread of the virus.
“The affected colleagues were sent home for self-isolation and advised to go for testing.
“The Winnie Madikizela-Mandela building on the Muckleneuk Campus has been closed and disinfection of the building is being planned,” he adds.
The University will also embark on disinfecting other campus buildings to ensure that no further contamination takes place.
