Unisa registrar suspended over ‘policy breaches, misconduct’
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The University of South Africa has suspended its registrar, Professor Steward Mothata, for a period of 90 days due to allegations of policy breaches and misconduct.
In a letter addressed to Mothata by the institution, he is accused of gross abuse of office, gross dishonesty and insubordination.
The exact details of the allegations which led to his suspension remain unclear.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Mothata was accused of sexual harassment and abuse of power by a former colleague.
During the suspension, Mothata is not allowed to enter the Unisa campus but will receive all salary benefits.
A disciplinary inquiry will be held.
