Unpaid debts sees Tshwane restricting water supply to Madibeng

The City of Tshwane has begun restricting water supply to the Madibeng local municipality due to a failure by North West to pay its debts.
The city’s spokesperson Selby Bokaba says officials have already begun restricting the water supply.
“Over the past three days, Tshwane officials managed to restrict water flow to 11 out of 13 meters, the remaining two meters couldn’t be accessed, however, efforts are underway to gain access to them to complete the restriction process.”
Tshwane gave an ultimatum to the Madibeng municipality last week to honour the debt repayments.
“The debt repayment commitment for bulk water supply (was due) by end of business on 19 August, failing which the city would restrict water flow to the municipality with effect from Friday, 20 August,” says Bokaba
Instead of paying Tshwane R40 million as per the agreement between the two municipalities, Madibeng only paid half of the amount, which was not enough to stave off the water flow restriction schedule.
