Unrest disrupts Wits lectures
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Some lectures at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) campus in Braamfontein were suspended on Monday after students and workers embarked on protest action.

Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel said a group consisting of students, some individuals off campus as well as workers from a private contractor on campus were demanding free education for all and for an end to outsourcing.
"We have now sent through security to all the venues on both the east and west campuses to try to stabilise the situation. We have asked private security and SAPS to remain on stand-by," she said.
Patel said fire extinguishers were opened and sprayed, but no injuries or arrests were reported.
Workers from the Matrix, a shop on campus, are reportedly part of the protest action.
The fees office and the shop have now been closed.
Students have spoken out, saying they were unhappy about another disruption.
