Statistics South Africa says annual headline consumer inflation increased from 2.2% in June to 3.2% in July as the country eased its Covid-19 lockdown.

Stats SA released the latest CPI figures on Wednesday.
The organisation’s Patrick Kelly says the main factors driving inflation was fuel prices and municipal tariffs.

“The price of fuel increased from R13,40 per litre in June to R15,12 per litre in July which has been largely felt by motorists.
“Despite the increase in the fuel price, it is still cheaper than it was the same month last year.”
Municipalities have also introduced revised tariffs for water and electricity and municipal rates in July.
Bu the increases in July were still lower than the price hikes implemented in July 2019.
