Van Staden appointment ‘will bring stability’ to NSFAS
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Former Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) SRC President Mike Mothiba says the appointment of Professor Lourens van Staden as the acting chairperson of NSFAS will bring much-needed stability to the scheme.
Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande on Sunday announced the appointment of Van Staden as the acting chairperson of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (Nsfas).

Van Staden's appointment follows the decision by Nsfas chairperson Ernest Khosa to take a leave of absence due to allegations of corruption levelled against him and Nzimande.
Professor Van Staden previously served as vice-chancellor at TUT.
Mothiba says Van Staden's appointment is well deserved.
"I believe he will restore the trust that people have lost with regards to NSFAS. I think the appointment is well-deserved. If you can check Van Staden's track record in the higher education sector, you will see that he has been doing well.
"From his time at TUT, the institution has been doing well academically with fewer strikes," said Mothiba.
