Vavi speeding case postponed
The speeding case of former Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) secretary-general Zwelinzima Vavi has been postponed to 9 March for plea and trial.
Vavi made a brief appearance on Tuesday at the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court.
The former Cosatu leader, who was driving an Audi Q7, was arrested by Metro Police in October after he allegedly clocked 207km per hour on the R24 freeway near Edenvale in the Ekurhuleni area. The speed limit on the busy road is 120km.
Vavi, dressed in a brown shirt, seemed cheerful as he spoke to other people who were appearing in the same court.
The former secretary-general of Cosatu was arrested for the alleged traffic offence a week after he led a march against corruption in Pretoria. The marches took place simultaneously in Durban and Cape Town as well.
Vavi’s bail has been extended is out on R1000 bail. - ANA
