Emotions are running high as service delivery protests turn violent in Brits, North West.

Police reinforcements have been sent to various areas outside Brits, where residents of informal settlements have turned to violent protests over the frustration over water shortages.

National police minister Nathi Mthethwa and national police commissioner Riah Phiyega arrived in the area on Tuesday morning for a private meeting and briefing session amid running battles between residents and police officers in streets and suburbs.
Emotions have been running high in the North West area with residents saying they have had no water in certain areas for eight days.
Police have fired rubber bullets and tear gas while the residents burned tires and threw petrol bombs.
Investigations are on-going following the deaths of two protestors the previous day. The minister and commissioner are said to also visit the families of the two deceased today.
