VIDEO: Risk of load shedding in summer
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The
heaters are packed away and the lights are switched on later in the evenings,
but don’t be fooled when it comes to load shedding in summer.

Eskom explains why the risk of load shedding remains high in summer, saying demand remains high in summer due to the hot weather and use of air conditioners and pool pumps.
Eskom also increases planned generation maintenance in summer taking 7000 megawatts off the grid, putting strain on the capacity to supply the demand.
Unplanned activities within the electricity supply chain also affect the grid and makes the risk of load shedding high.
