Violence breaks out in Pretoria West
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Violence broke out in Pretoria West this morning, with angry
residents burning down two houses they allege are being used as a brothel and a
drug den.
This follows similar scenes in Rosettenville in Johannesburg last week, where residents set alight several homes, claiming they belonged to drug dealers.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustina Selepe says a group of 70 to 100 residents took to the streets this morning, vowing to rid the area of drug dealers and prostitutes.
"There have been no injuries or arrests. Police are investigating a case of arson," says Selepe
She says the situation has calmed down since this morning.
"There is a strong police presence at this moment. The situation is calm, but police will be around until this evening."
