The latest postponement follows Mdluli’s bid to secure state funding in the legal matter.

Mdluli appeared at the Pretoria High Court on Friday on charges related to the police’s secret slush fund.

Mdluli wants the state to foot the bill because the crimes he faces pertain to when he was still employed by the state.

Investigating Directorate spokesperson, Sindisiwe Seboka says the postponement will give Mdluli time to get a verdict from the state.

“In May, the court had granted Mdluli 30 days to apply. Today Mdluli’s lawyer told the court that an application had been made, however a directive of how far the process has gone had not been forthcoming,” Seboka adds.

Mdluli and his co-accused, former supply chain manager Heine Barnard and former Chief Financial Officer of State Security Agency, Solomon Lazarus, face charges of corruption, fraud, and theft.

The trio is accused of abusing the police secret slush fund during their time at the helm of the police crime intelligence services between 2008 and 2012.

The accusations include payment of private trips to China and Singapore, private use of witness protection houses, and the conversion of state property for personal use.
