Vuwani calm on voting day: police

The community of Vuwani has accused government of deploying police in the area as a means to silence them.

Vuwani in Limpopo was calm on Wednesday morning, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS)'s Brigadier Motlafela Majapelo.

They have said that they will be boycotting Wednesday's vote.
However, Motlafela says those who do want to vote will not be hindered from doing so.
"Our presence here is to ensure the safety of everyone," says Motlafela, adding that if people choose not to vote it will not be because they are not safe doing so.
"We will not tolerate any intimidation from any party If any person commits a crime relating to intimidation or incitement to violence we will definitely take action and that action includes arrest."
