The main opposition party’s protest comes amid continuous load shedding as Eskom battles to keep up with planned maintenance and breakdowns at various power stations around the country.

It also wants the 19% tariff hike granted to Eskom by the national energy regulator Nersa to be stopped.

The DA is accusing the ANC of destroying the country’s energy infrastructure and economy.

This while a large contingent of ANC Youth League members gathered outside Luthuli House - vowing to defend the party's building.

The DA's Natasha Mazzone says the party will hand over a list of solutions and ideas to end load shedding when they arrive at the governing party’s headquarters.

"When we get there we are hoping for a very peaceful encounter with the ANC officials, where we will be handing over a set of ideas that we have to solve the energy crisis. What we want to see is politics being put aside, ideologies being put aside and South Africa being put forward and all ideas being put on the table to solve this crisis.”

But the ANC's Pule Mabe says he doesn't understand why the DA insists on marching to the ANC headquarters.

"The DA is provocative. How do you march to a political party, to take a memorandum on electricity? Do you see any power stations here? So they are provocative, opportunistic and effectively grandstanding.”
