Updated | By Suné du Toit
Police on Friday threatened to smash a JacarandaFM News journalist's equipment when he recorded the assault and arrest of a student leader.

Samkelo Maseko was recording the arrest of the EFF Student Command leader when police tried to take his equipment.
According to Maseko, police kicked the leader while he was lying on the ground.
"They tried to grab my iPad and smash it on the ground as I was recording the police arresting Monageng while kicking him," he said.
Maseko said a number of other leaders have also been arrested.
Protesting students ignored a court interdict and continued their protest at the University of Pretoria's main campus against Afrikaans as a medium of instruction.
Police fired rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas to disperse students who were burning tyres near the campus.
