[Watch] JMPD investigating altercation between cops and taxi driver

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) says an investigation is underway into the circumstances that led to an altercation between two of its cops and a taxi driver.
A video surfaced on social media on Wednesday, showing two officers in uniform having a heated exchange with the driver over an alleged traffic infringement.
The taxi was stopped mid-traffic on a Johannesburg freeway.
In the video, the two officials can be seen manhandling the driver while angry passengers try to diffuse the situation.

The heated argument escalated when the two cops continued to forcibly push and pull the driver.
The cops then call for back up.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar says action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation..
"We cannot act against the officers because we do not know what happened, but the matter will be investigated and establish the circumstances around this incident."

This comes after taxi operators partially blockaded the road connecting Brits, Rustenburg and Pretoria with taxis over the issuing of operating permits. Spokesperson Adele Myburgh says police are yet to track down the drivers of the deserted vehicles. "They actually left the taxis there.
