WATCH: Krugersdorp 'drug dens' demolished
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula was in the Krugersdorp CBD on Monday where SAPS demolished several buildings which allegedly housed drug dealers.
Some of the buildings were burned down by members of the community during last week’s protests in Krugersdorp.
Residents demanded that police take action against drugs and crime in the area.

“We came, we listened to the community. They complained about police leadership, drug trafficking and human trafficking that is happening here. We asked for five days and we have implemented a programme of action,” Mbalula said.
"This is the starting point, old dilapidated buildings, which is a general problem in South Africa, we have said these buildings must be destroyed as they are used for criminality," he added.
Mbalula says similar buildings that are occupied will also be shut down.
The community welcomed the intervention.
Mbalula has appointed a new cluster commander for Mogale City and a new station manager at Kagiso as part of efforts to deal with crime in the area.
