The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal says it will hold a disciplinary hearing for the pupil who allegedly torched the car of the school's acting Deputy Principal.

The grade 10 pupil from the Northbury Park Secondary School in Northdale, Pietermaritzburg, has since run away from the school after the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
It is understood that the teacher reprimanded the pupil for using cellphone during school hours and an altercation ensued between the two.
The pupil left and returned later after allegedly fetching petrol from home.
He then poured the petrol over the car parked on the school ground and set the vehicle on fire.
In the video posted on social media, school staff can be seen trying to extinguish the blaze but it was too late.
The department’s spokesperson, Kwazi Mthethwa, says while they are gathering more information, the acting Deputy Principle would be within her rights to lay a charge against the student.
"We condemn this barbaric act, we are going to take steps based on what the District Director has picked up in terms of detailed information. Schools should stick to their policies and we call on learners to respect school rules and listen to the teachers. "
