[WATCH LIVE] Makhura delivers update on Covid response amid push for tighter restrictions
The Provincial Command Council in Gauteng will give a status report on the Covid-19 developments in the province.
The address comes amid runaway infections across most provinces, with Gauteng presenting with alarming new infections.
On Thursday, the country recorded 17,493 new cases - more than 10,000 of which were from Gauteng - sparking calls for harsher restrictions on the province.
Premier David Makhura is also expected to give an update on the shutdown of the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.
The Johannesburg hospital has not been fully operational after it was gutted by a fire in April which destroyed a part of the hospital's dispensary department.
