WATCH LIVE: Ramaphosa to announce new national police commissioner
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to announce a new national police commissioner on Thursday afternoon.
The announcement is set down for 16:30.
It comes on Khehla Sitole’s last working day.
Sitole's move to leave his top job was announced at the end of February following a "mutual agreement" with Ramaphosa.
The agreement will see Sitole's contract come to an end earlier than expected, bringing an end to a tumultuous term at the helm of the police force.
According to the presidency, the split was amicable and "in the best interests of the country".
The new commissioner will inherit a lengthy to-do list, including rising high crime rates and low police morale.
