[WATCH] Massive cash heist on N4 leaves two security guards injured

Residents report that it sounded like a warzone as the security guards and the robbers shot at each other for a few minutes.

Explosions could also be heard kilometres away.

Emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso, says they received the call just after 9pm.

“Upon arrival  at the scene, they found three vehicles that were on fire, of which one of them was a cash in transit vehicle.”

Mabaso says paramedics were already treating two male patients reported to be security officers.

“Two male patients were treated for injuries which included facial burns.

“One patient was transported to Meulmed Hospital in moderate to serious condition and the other patient was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in a critical condition.”

Mabaso says that firefighters managed to extinguish the vehicles.

The whole highway was closed for some time.

“Law enforcement agencies  continued with crime scene investigations while all ramps going to N4/N1 at Proefplass interchange were closed.”
