[WATCH] Mkhwebane: Public protector’s investigations are not secret
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has defended her decision to issue a Section 7 (9) notice against Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, amid accusations that is unprecedented.
Mkhwebane took to YouTube to detail her four investigations against Gordhan.
She uploaded a video to "communicate directly with South Africans".

"This has been done in the past during the Nkandla investigation. The then public protector, or the former public protector, announced that she has issued a provisional report and she's busy with the final report. It also was done during the investigation of the former and the late cooperative governance minister Sicelo Shiceka."
Mkhwebane said the public protector’s investigations are not secret.
"It’s a transparent process there’s nothing stopping us from announcing that we'll be issuing a section 7(9) notice or we have issued one. In terms of section standards, we are obligated to inform the complainants that every 20 working day about the progress."
