The Department of Community Safety's spokesperson Moeti Mmusi said the crash involved a fuel tanker.

"There is mist on the N12 between eMalahleni and leading to Delmas and Ogies and as a result, due to poor visibility there was a multiple vehicle collision that involved a fuel tanker and several other vehicles. The road is currently closed at the moment."

Mmusi said traffic officers had been deployed to assist with diverting traffic.

"The traffic law officers are on both points of the road to redirect traffic to other alternative routes that we believe that it is the N4 for both the N12 and R555.

"We are urging motorists who experience misty conditions to always put their headlamps on, increase the following distance and reduce their speed as much as they can.

"We believe that the misty will clear quite soon so that normal flow of traffic can return to that road again but we are talking about 30 to 45 minutes delay due to the congestion."
