Scores of mourners came out to pay their respects to the late Maphatsoe who died of a heart attack earlier this week.
Among the mourners was former minister of finance Des van Rooyen.
Van Rooyen says he held a long discussion with Maphatsoe on some of the challenges facing the ruling party.
Among the topics discussed was the failed registration of municipal candidates in the ANC.
Van Rooyen says the issue of ANC staff salaries was discussed.

On Friday the ruling party was dealt a huge blow, after the Constitutional Court ruled that the municipal elections will go ahead in October, as gazetted by the government.
This comes in the wake of the ANC not being able to field their candidates for the upcoming elections for at least 93 municipalities across the country.
