The Sunnyside Park Police Station is investigating a viral video showing a member of the public sitting on the backseat of a Sunnyside police van, promoting his herbal products.
The video went viral after it was posted on social media platform TikTok.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says Provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has instructed the station commander of the Sunnyside Park Police Station to investigate the matter and take disciplinary action against any member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) or SAPS members who allowed such conduct inside a police vehicle.
"Police vehicles should be used to serve the community who are victims of crime and to conduct police visibility aimed at preventing and combatting crime in the province.
"The misuse and abuse of police vehicles will not be tolerated, and those police officers who are found to be contravening the police code of conduct will be dealt with accordingly," said the Provincial Commissioner.
