North West police have arrested around 10 protestors who “hijacked” an excavator and used it to dig up a portion of the N12 in Ikageng.

Residents were protesting over a lack of service delivery in the area.
Police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says the protest started on Monday on the N12 just outside Potchefstroom.

"Actually, since this morning 5 o’clock the N12 road is closed for traffic.
"I can just say during an incident yesterday there was this construction vehicle used to dig up a tar road which is called the Sarafina Road in Ikageng itself."
Myburg says a case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
A video of the incident showed the machine removing large portions of the road while the community watches on.
