[WATCH] Snowfalls blanket parts of SA

Parts of the Western Cape have been covered in heavy snow since Sunday night.

The South Africa Weather Service has issued a warning of disruptive snowfalls in places over the high-ground and mountainous areas of southern Namakwa of the Northern Cape, as well as the West Coast District and Cape Winelands of the Western Cape.


These areas can also expect gale force winds, severe morning frost and heavy rainfall.


Gauteng: Fine and cool but cold in the south.

Mpumalanga: Fine and cold to cool but warm in the Lowveld. Morning frost is expected over the south-western Highveld areas.

Limpopo: Fine and warm.

North West: Cool in the north-east, otherwise fine, cold and windy. 

Free State: Fine and cold, but partly cloudy and very cold in the south where isolated showers and rain is expected with possible light snowfalls. It will be windy in places. 

Northern Cape: Cloudy in places in the south and west where it will be windy with isolated to scattered showers and rain, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to very cold. It will be fine in the extreme north. Snowfalls are expected over the southern high-ground. 

Western Cape: Cold along the coast, otherwise cloudy, very cold and windy with scattered to widespread showers and rain.  Snowfalls are expected on the mountains and high-ground.

Eastern Cape: Cloudy, windy and cold to very cold with isolated showers and rain but scattered in the west. Snowfalls are expected on the mountains and high-ground. The wind along the coast will be strong to gale force westerly to south-westerly. 

KwaZulu-Natal: Fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated evening showers and rain in the south. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh northerly, becoming strong south-westerly from the south in the morning, spreading northwards.
