WATCH: Tensions run high as Malema does ‘oversight’ visit to Midrand restaurant
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Tensions ran high at the Mall of Africa on Wednesday when Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader Julius Malema visited ‘Kream’ restaurant.
Malema visited the restaurant to check the employment ratio between South Africans and foreign nationals at the establishment.
This is one of many visits the EFF will be embarking on in the hospitality industry.
The restaurant initially refused a meeting with the EFF, despite claims by Malema that they had earlier agreed to meet with him.

Speaking to reports outside ‘Kream’, Malema blamed the restaurant for tensions between South Africans and foreign nationals.
“’Kream’ is known to have taken a decision to completely exclude South Africans. They do so because they want to create an impression that Africans are taking jobs from South Africans. So they are dividing our people because when you're here and you are told that people who don’t come from here are the ones who are taking your jobs you’re already going to attack them. So what we want is South Africans and brothers and sisters to work together.”
An amicable meeting was later held between Malema and ‘Kream’ management.
According to information given to Malema on the employment ratio, ‘Kream’ employs 50% South Africans and 50% foreign nationals.
