WATCH: Uproar over gender-based violence in Shoprite store

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, expressed outrage after a video surfaced of a mother being physically assaulted in Cosmo City's Usave Shoprite supermarket.

The video shows Thandi Shaparadzo being handcuffed and manhandled by security personnel in full view of her 3-year-old daughter.

Nkosi-Malobane, together with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), visited Cosmo City's Usave Shoprite supermarket on Sunday.
It is understood that Shaparadzo was manhandled after her daughter caused a mess outside the grocery shop.

Police spokesperson, Nonhlanhla Khumalo says a docket was opened at Honeydew Police Station and is currently under investigation.
Shoprite SA wrote on Twitter that they are aware of the incident but says the security guards seen in the video are not employed by Shoprite.
We are aware of this incident which took place in the Cosmo City Mall whereafter centre security apprehended a woman in Usave.
