VIDEO: VCs to brief media over #OutsourcingMustFall
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The vice-chancellors and rectors of Gauteng-based universities will on Monday afternoon brief the media over the protests by contract workers and students at campuses across the province.
Protests have led to a delay in various activities, including registration, at the start of the academic year.
On Monday, entrances to the University of Pretoria (UP) remained locked with student leaders vowing to intensify their action until all workers become permanent staff members R10 000 a month.
A group of about 200 people were singing and dancing outside the gates of the university demanding to be insourced as permanent members of campus staff with the same benefits.
Police accompanied the crowd of protesters as they made their way up and down Festival and Prospect streets.
Leaders maintained that they would continue to disrupt proceedings at UP until their demands were met.
