WATCH : Pandor says world must ensure Israel implement ICJ ruling
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor says the international community has a duty to ensure that Israel adheres to the ruling by the International Court of Justice.
Pandor briefed the media on Wednesday on a range of issues, including South Africa's case against Israel at the UN's top court.
The ICJ ordered Israel to take all possible measures to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
South Africa's application against Israel argued that it is violating the UN Convention on Genocide in its war against Hamas in Gaza.
Pandor said South Africa did its duty by approaching the ICJ, and it's now up to the international community to ensure the measures are implemented.
"I believe South Africa has done what it can and now the global community should answer the question, do these conventions mean anything? Or do we now have a world in which there is open licence, in which you can act as you please against any nation?"
Pandor said while South Africa believes it scored a victory at the ICJ, it was just merely the beginning of the fight.
"We need to engage all over the world and begin to form a force that would advocate action, particularly action for negotiated two-state solution."
Minister Pandor emphasise that South Africa has done its part by approaching the #InternationalCourtofJustice, now it is up to the International Community to start asking the question “Do these Conventions actually work,” pic.twitter.com/yOys6qwTu3
