Watch: Police destroy thousands of firearms amid crime prevention campaign
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Gauteng police have destroyed over 15 000 firearms which were collected during the nation-wide crime prevention operation.

Some of the firearms were voluntarily surrendered or forfeited to the State.
Through Operation Shanela, police have confiscated more than 54 000 firearms since April 2022.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola was in Vanderbijlpark in the south of Gauteng to oversee the demolition of the firearms on Thursday.
“All firearms that were destroyed today had been subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they had been utilised in any commission of a crime. The SAPS confirms that all firearms have been cleared,” said SAPS in a statement.
