That's as dam levels across the country decline.

Water and Sanitation department spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says this week's figures aren't very encouraging.

"The assessment was conducted on Monday and showed the national water storage reflected a 0.4 decrease on the dam levels which are currently sitting on an average of 71.6% - compared to 71.9% last week. We are now in a season where the rain have stopped in the larger parts of the country with the exception of the Western Cape which is a Winter season rainfall area," he says.

But the sitution in Cape Town is still bleak.

"The Cape Town Dams system serving mainly the City of Cape Town is currently sitting at 22.7%. This is a slight increase from the previous week, however the City is still a long way off from breaking this ongoing drought," says Ratau.

Ratau says it is important to save water ahead of the long dry season.
