Technicians started the two-days process on Tuesday to install a new connection for a bypass on the Specon pipeline.

Polokwane Municipality spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo says the shutdown will not immediately affect residents, but he warns that water pressure will be constrained as the reservoir's levels drop.

According to Mothapo, once the pipeline is connected, water supply to Polokwane will improve as the repairs aim to curb the constant breakdown of the Olifantspoort water treatment plant.

Customers from parts of Polokwane, Chuene, Seshego, Mankweng and areas outside the city such as Lebowakgomo, Mphahlele and Zebediela will be affected.

"The municipality urges residents to prepare for this shortage by storing water they will be using during the downtime. Water tankers will also be placed in the city," says Mothapo.

Limited water supply to the city will be diverted from other sources including the Ebenezer plant and Dap Naudé dam.

Mothapo also urged residents to use water sparingly during this period.
