Water supply precarious in several Joburg suburbs
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Johannesburg Water on Wednesday warned residents that several of its reservoirs are running low to empty due to Rand Water maintenance at the Eikenhof pump station.

On Tuesday, the utility completed the repair work at the Zwartkopjes pump station and Daleside booster stations.
Rand Water is undertaking a five-week maintenance program in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and North West, which will be completed by the end of July.
Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala says alternative water supply arrangements have been made.
"Soweto systems are low, but supplying normally. However, Doornkop West and Protea Glen reservoirs are currently strained, and poor pressure to no water is expected."
"The Commando system supply is low and is impacting all the reservoirs within the system. Crosby Reservoir is declining but supplying normally. The Brixton Reservoir is critically low, and the outlet is closed while the tower is empty. No water is expected in the supply zone. Pumping will resume once the supply improves.”
Most Randburg reservoirs and towers are also empty.
Shabalala said the levels at reservoirs in Boschkop, Cosmo City, Honeydew, and Randpark Ridge are low, but supplying normally.
"In Roodepoort, most systems are also currently empty due to no incoming supply, except the Horizon Tower, which is low but supplying normally.
"In Lenasia systems, all reservoirs are currently low, and poor pressure to no water supply is expected."
