Water supply restored to most Gauteng hospitals

The Department of Health in Gauteng confirmed on Friday that the water supply has been restored to most health facilities which have been struggling with dry taps over the past few days.

The Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital, Zola Community Health Center, and Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital had little to no water for a few days due to problems at Joburg Water and Rand Water.

The lack of water supply was due to damage to feeder boards supplying Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station with electricity.

This affected mainly the Soweto and Johannesburg areas.

Departmental spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital remains without water.

"The hospital in West Rand is still having challenges as the local reservoirs feeding into the facility are still low. Water tankers will continue to supply the facility until the water is fully restored.”
