On Tuesday the National Assembly debated the DA’s motion to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the theft and alleged cover-up of a large amount of money from the president’s farm in 2020.

The EFF’s Omphile Maotwe told MPs the party will not allow the ANC to sweep the issue under the carpet.

"If they think they will sweep the Phala-Phala saga under the carpet, we want them to listen carefully. We are going to deal with Ramadollar and we are going to deal with him thoroughly and decisively.

"It is a matter of time because we know that Ramaphosa's time is coming to an end."

Meanwhile, DA chief whip Siviwe Gwarube said the section 89 inquiry, established by National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, only deals with the president’s involvement in the scandal.

“They have pretzeled themselves explaining how law enforcement agencies are investigating the matter to argue why Parliament must sit on its hands.

“In doing so they have demonstrated to us that they simply have no appreciation of the constitution and the doctrine of the separation of powers.”

GOOD’s Brett Herron said the president should provide the necessary answers to avoid creating “political opportunism”.

“These are serious allegations, and they require serious responses. By refusing to provide the answers the president CREATES space for political opportunism at a time when the country can least afford it.

“It is very difficult to take this motion very seriously given that the allegations are the subject of scrutiny.”

Other parties that came out in support of the establishment of the ad hoc committee include the IFP, the Freedom Front Plus and the ACDP.
