We will turn this department around, Sisulu vows

Minister of Water and Sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu has vowed to turn around the financially-stricken department.
Sisulu was briefing the media ahead of her department’s budget vote in Parliament on Tuesday.

The department currently sits with debts of R2.6 billion.
“The figures are shocking, and I feel very sorry for the staff that have to sit and explain at Treasury and the portfolio committees, because I don’t think they know the extent of the damage we have,” she said.
Sisulu could not immediately say what action would be taken against employees who contributed to the department’s dire state.
However, a report will be released after the department’s vetting process.
“We don’t have a report yet and that will be outside of proper management of situations. As soon as we have a report we will call a press conference and we will go through it and indicate what we are doing with the wrongdoers,” added Sisulu.
