The South African Weather Service says this could lead to localised flooding.

A watch has been issued for Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.

Weather forecaster Dipuo Tawana says: "We have issued a watch for heavy rains which may lead to localised flooding in the central and southern parts of Gauteng, extreme southwestern parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo, as well as the eastern parts of North West and the north-eastern parts of the Free State."

There has been much-needed rainfall over drought-stricken Limpopo and Mpumalanga over the last week, she confirms.

"We received 97mm of rainfall at the Komatipoort station yesterday. In Barberton we received 131mm. The Limpopo Lowveld also received quite a high amount of rainfall."

Tawana says the possibility of localised flooding is due to the heavy rains already experienced in these parts of the country.

"The soil might be saturated and whatever amount of rainfall they get, it could result in localised flooding," she explains.
