We’ll return when Guptas testify, vows SACP

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in Gauteng says it will return to the commission of inquiry into statecapture when members of Gupta family testify.

State Capture March

The party marched to the inquiry in Parktown to hand over a memorandum on Friday.

It wants the commission to thoroughly investigate the evidence presented before it.

"We are coming back the day the Guptas are coming. We will be here. On the other days we will bring these placards we have, you will see them in the areas," said the SACP’s provincial secretary Jacob Mamabolo.

The party also pleaded with the commission to conclude its work within the prescribed time frame so as to not waste taxpayers' money.

"We want to appeal to them comrades, that they must do their work because this commission of inquiry is the litmus test to our constitutional democracy. It is the biggest threat to the national democratic revolution to our constitutional democracy," Mamabolo told supporters.

The commission heard testimony from former deputy minister of finance Mcebisi Jonas, who revealed that Ajay Gupta threatened to kill him if he spilled the beans on their attempts to capture the state.
