A 40-year-old woman who was arrested a week ago has appeared in the Oberholzer Court in Carletonville on a charge of assaulting a minor.
The arrest follows a video on social media depicting a crèche employee slapping a toddler repeatedly and forcing her to clean up her vomit.
The video shows the woman lowering the child’s pants before administering a couple of smacks on the buttocks.
The child, who is crying softly, looks up at the teacher as she continues to use a cloth to clean the small green plastic table in the classroom.

"Why are you vomiting? Why?" the teacher is heard repeatedly asking the child.
The teacher then walks away and returns with a tissue, which she throws on the wet desk, telling the young child to wipe her face.
The child does as she is told but is slapped several times and finally lets out an audible cry.
Police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters says the woman was released on bail on Thursday.
"With the court process having commenced and, given that the investigation is yet to be concluded, police are not at liberty to divulge any further detail or give further comment on this matter.
“Management of police have, however, condemned in the harshest terms possible, both the incident as well as the continued irresponsible circulation of the video clips on social media platforms."
Peters says this case will receive priority attention to ensure justice is served.
