The matter was postponed to April 14 for further investigations, said prosecutor Una van der Schyff through an interpreter.

The officer was dressed in jeans and a black leather jacket. He sat quietly alone in the front row of the court before proceedings began.

He was one of four police officers arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of the protester, but is the only one who has been charged with murder.

Four community members attended the court case. One of them was Joyce Dorsey, she said the community was not happy that the case was postponed.

"Hopefully when he appears again something better will come out of it, but for now we are fine."

He was granted R5000 bail in his previous court appearance on January 28.

Tshepo Babuseng, 28, was shot dead, allegedly by a policeman, after residents of Durban Deep, Roodepoort, barricaded roads with stones and burning tyres in a protest over a lack of housing in January.
