The Hawks have arrested a 35-year-old advocate from the Western Cape on charges of corruption.
Advocate Phuti Mothemane was arrested after he allegedly attempted to bribe a member of the National Prosecuting Authority by offering R50 000 to make a case against one of his clients disappear.
Mothemane appeared in the Bellville Regional Court on Friday.
He was granted R5000 bail.
A spokesperson for the Hawks in the Western Cape, Siyabulela Vakubi, says the case was postponed to October.
"A warrant of arrest was issued and was executed by the Serious Corruption Investigation team, hence the arrest.
"The provincial head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Major-General Makgato, has welcomed the arrest by the team and further reiterated that no one is above the law and DPCI will continue to root out any criminal elements in our society," said Vakubi.
